As part of Maude Kerns Art Center’s Studio Program, the Printmaking Studio is a space designed to promote and advocate appreciation and creation of the visual arts by offering facilities for community artists working in the medium of printmaking. Located on the lower floor of the MKAC West Annex building, the Printmaking Studio is available to the public for use 6 days a week. The goals of the Printmaking Studio are to allow local artists affordable and equitable access to a variety of tools, equipment, and resources to support them in their exploration of printmaking.
The MKAC Printmaking Studio is fully equipped with all of the equipment and tools needed for printmakers working in Silk Screen, Relief, and Etching Printmaking Processes.
Access to the MKAC Printmaking Studio may be granted after an artist has successfully completed any printmaking class facilitated by MKAC instructors OR after those with previous equivalent experience in printmaking complete an orientation with MKAC staff.
Prior experience with a printmaking class is a prerequisite. While working in the print studio, you may ask the studio monitor or others in the studio for advice and help occasionally, but as a studio artist, you are expected to know the equipment and techniques that you have applied to use and should be able to work independently. We have a variety of classes and workshops scheduled so you can learn new things and expand your skills if you're not already practicing.
Weekday availability is from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm except during holidays, class times, and special events. Weekend availability is on Saturdays from 12:00 pm-4:00 pm unless we are hosting a special event or are closed for exhibition turnover. Once you've completed your orientation, you will be given access to our online booking system where an updated schedule will be posted and available hours may be booked. To schedule an orientation, fill out the inquiry form below.
The Printmaking Studio provides presses, blankets, hinge-clamp boards, etching needles, scrapers, burnishers; engraving & carving tools, files, sharpening stones, brayers, rollers, squeegees, tarlatan, palette knives, surfaces for rolling out ink, cleaning supplies, screen washing supplies, and more. included in each studio session.
