Full refunds or credits (minus the cancellation fee) will be offered if cancellation is made 10 business days or more prior to the start date of the class, workshop, lab, or camp.
A 50% refund or credit (minus the cancellation fee) on the cost of the class will be issued if a cancellation request is made within 6-10 business days prior to class, workshop, or camp.
No refund or credits will be given for cancellation requests made 5 business days or less prior to class, workshop, or camp. There are no refunds after the first session of the class, workshop, or camp.

We are currently offering scholarships for 50% of the cost of tuition for classes. Scholarships are available for all age groups through the Susi Larsen & Cameron Serbu Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Madeline Christenson Scholarship Fund.

This 9 week class offers the perfect atmosphere for self-exploration and artistic camaraderie. Students with skills in their chosen medium have the opportunity to learn from each other’s methods, practice new techniques, and paint in a positive and supportive group setting. Each class begins with a critique reviewing the previous week’s work facilitated by Kate. Carefully designed still lifes are provided and students may take advantage of studio time to work on projects of their choice.

Come learn the techniques for creating a wide array of color and tonal value with just 5 tubes of oil paint. Instruction with oil paint will focus on skill-building in the use of value and color with the goal that each student applies these skills to the painting style of their choice. Those with experience and confidence in any painting medium - oil, acrylic, watercolor etc. - may join the class to take advantage of weekly critiques in addition to utilising the still lifes that will be set up for each session.

Refresh your love of drawing and painting while rendering botanical subjects in a stylized manner. Practice techniques of careful observation through photo references and simplifying the most identifiable characteristics of giant leaves, edible fruits and vegetables, and other flora. Learn to add color and depth to your sketches using opaque medium to paint over them. Each class, you will follow along as the instructor demonstrates in real time, allowing the space for questions and explanations on how to approach the drawings in a specific manner. Join us and come away from this class with 1-2 finished works of art and techniques to continue your practice at home.
Dive into the world of acrylic painting! This class is great for beginning painters as we explore the history of the medium and the variety of acrylic paints. Participants will work on different surfaces, learning techniques including composition, color theory, and scaling an image. The final painting will be shared with other class participants so that we learn from each other. No previous experience required! Join us for a hands-on and informative class!

Join our wheel throwing class. Whether you are new to wheel throwing or you have taken a wheel throwing class before, join us to build your skills. This class will cover the basics of throwing including wedging, centering, and creating simple forms on the wheel. Classes will begin with an instructor demonstration and move into hands-on activities to help you learn the basics of throwing and preparing your work to be fired. Students will leave this 8 week course with at least 3 finished forms to take home. All levels welcome.
This class takes students through the most basic of printing techniques all the way to a more complicated three color print. You will complete a handful of projects that will build on each other, culminating in a final, semi large-scale 3-color reductive print that will take up the last 3 classes. Loosen up your printmaking process again using simple potato block printing, printing on fabric, how to make your own stamps, how to transfer drawings to linoleum, and how to carve and print multiple colors on a linoleum block. Prior drawing and painting experience is necessary in this class. We will move quickly through a variety of techniques and not spend time on composition or other design principles which can be challenging without some prior experience.

In these individually scheduled, one-on-one courses, an instructor will guide you through the basics of manual camera function and shooting on black & white 35mm film. This flexible and customizable course is designed for beginners with no previous experience in a black & white darkroom. In this individually scheduled, one-on-one course, an instructor will guide you through the basics of darkroom photography processes, adjusting the curriculum to focus on your goals within the medium. Topics covered include processing black & white film, contact printing, and enlargement printing in a black & white darkroom. Please note: This course does not include instructions on camera function & shooting. An additional lesson can be scheduled for those enrolled who require such instruction.

Discover how to select the perfect photo reference and begin creating your first scratchboard. Day two will be an open class with demonstrations by the instructor and one-on-one feedback as you continue working on your design. By the end of the class you will walk away with your very own scratchboard masterpiece and create a new past time for yourself! Join artist/jeweler Bea Roberts for a fascinating look into personal adornment. Bea brings to us her years of experience as a worldwide traveler in search of jewelry/wearables and introduces us to a variety of reasons humans adorn themselves. The first day will be a rich cultural dive into designing by looking at a variety of unique cultural designs. We will explore basic tools and techniques and students will begin the process of designing a piece of jewelry or wearable. Participants will be given a list of local resources if they want to shop after the class. On the second day, students will finish their beading and embellishments. Bea will demonstrate and bring in professional jewelry-making tools and supplies. While some tools will be available to share, participants may purchase tools for their own use. Celebrate collage at this community collaging session with other fellow collage artists. Open to all levels of experience. Some collage materials will be provided, but bring your favorite materials and tools.
Create together this holiday! Instructor, Sara Spahn, will teach you how to upcycle everyday objects into memorable holiday gifts. We provide a variety of art materials. Learn easy decorative, stamping, printing, and collaging techniques to embellish one-of-a-kind photo frames, and make retro clip art gift tags, holiday cards, and wrapping paper. Upcycling is a great way to share art stewardship with your family. Bring a favorite photo for the frame and join us as we make gifts of art together!
MKAC has a parking lot for art students, visitors, and staff. If you happen to arrive for your class and the parking lot is full, please come into the office and grab a parking pass. This will override the street parking time limits for your class time!
In the event of bad weather, the Art Center will close if Lane Community College is closed. Classes for that day will be cancelled and a make-up session will be held at a later date. In the event that Lane Community College is delayed, all Art Center classes before 12pm will be cancelled.
