ABOUT EUGENE DARKROOM GROUP

The Eugene Darkroom Group is a 501c3 non-profit in Eugene, Oregon. Our mission is to preserve and promote film photography and provide artistic education to the community. We seek to revitalize a beautiful yet struggling medium by investing in the photographic talent of the people in the Eugene area. Our goal is to provide a thoroughly equipped darkroom and studio for film photographers and accessible education about the medium to the community.

MEMBERSHIP

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

Our membership based community darkroom is equipped with:

  • Three enlargers
  • A film processing area
  • A full black & white printing set-up

We provide our members with all of the chemistry and equipment needed to process and print from black & white film. We also offer a dry-working space to mount and finish prints as well as scan negatives in Maude Kerns’ on-site artist services space. Members have access to our equipment library as well, where they can check out items such as cameras, lighting equipment, and product-shooting boxes.

Our members are currently able to access and work in the darkroom and artist services space independently every day of the week. We are currently accepting applications from folks who have prior experience in a darkroom setting and are looking to access our space.

EDUCATION

Eugene Darkroom Group collaborates with the Maude Kerns Art Center to provide private lessons in a variety of photography related areas. Our current offerings include:

  • Introductory Manual Camera Function Lessons
  • Introductory Black & White Darkroom Courses
  • Alternative Process Photography Workshops
  • Black & White Photography Refresher Workshops
  • Advanced Photographic Processes Lessons

Learn more about each class on our website and check back regularly for updates.

DONATE

There are multiple ways to support Eugene Darkroom Group in our mission to provide a thoroughly equipped community darkroom and accessible education about the medium to the community.

DONATE TO THE DARKROOM: We rely on on-going supply and chemistry donations to keep our darkroom functional for members. You can support our community darkroom in two ways: with a monetary donation to our General Fund OR by making as supply donation directly from our Darkroom Wishlist.

Your contribution here will go directly toward our improvement of the community darkroom space at Maude Kerns Art Center.

DONATE TO OUR EDUCATION PROGRAM: In order to make photography accessible, we seek supplies we can provide to those enrolled in our classes. You can support this initiative in two ways: with a monetary donation to our Education Fund OR by making a supply donation from our Education Wishlist.

Your contribution here goes directly toward supply purchases for students in our classes at Maude Kerns Art Center.

OPEN DARKROOM

If you're interested in working in our darkroom but can't commit to membership yet for whatever reason, we have an Open Darkroom program every Thursday from 12-3, where you can sign up for one time use of our darkroom for a small fee. Our staff takes care of the setup and breakdown of the space, including any chemistry you may require, and you simply have time and space to work on your craft.
