The Culture of Calacas
(Day of the Dead Figures)
Lecture by Susan Dearborn Jackson
Wednesday, October 22, 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Join us for a delightful evening as folklorist Susan Dearborn Jackson shares her knowledge of Día de los Muertos and the whimsical Mexican figures known as “calacas.” Calacas, colorfully decorated clay or wood figures, represent spirits of the dead acting and appearing as they would have in life. These figures celebrate the life of a person. Calacas are an integral part of Día de los Muertos folklore, and Jackson will discuss their history, creation, and significance in Mexican culture.
